Treehouse Trivia
What is the largest treehouse Pete has ever designed?
A 30,000 square foot, five level hotel perched on 18 fir and cedar trees in the Snag Mountain area outside of Washougal, WA. Unfortunately, it was never built.

Planning/Design Costs

Conceptual Drawings and Budgeting-On-Site. During a Site Visit Pete does tree selection, conceptual drawings and rough budgeting. The cost of a site visit is $7,500, all expenses included (this rate is subject to change for international travel, last minute notice, etc.). Please plan to send a 50% deposit when we provide a site visit contract. The balance is due upon Pete's arrival.

Drafting. Performed by one of our talented in-house engineers, drafting takes a minimum of six hours and could take up to twenty-five depending on the scope of your project. Upon completion of the concept drawings we can provide a more finely-tuned estimate about how long your drawings will take to complete. Billable rate $125/hour.

Modeling (optional). Flat fee ranges from $500 to $2,000, a figure that will be refined before you give us the go ahead to proceed.

Labor: The average hourly rate for our craftsmen is $75. Most treehouses (about 200 square feet of fully finished floor space on average) take anywhere from 600 to 1,000 man-hours to complete, depending on the level of finish.

Materials: The cost of materials is usually about equal to the cost of labor.

Building Costs
The Question Everyone Asks-How much does it cost to build a treehouse?

How much does it cost to have the Nelson Crew do everything from Tree Selection, to Planning/Designing to Building? That's about the most common question we get asked. Locally we've built very basic, platform-and-stair-only type of structures (for clients who want to build the rest of the house themselves) for about $20,000. We've also built well-appointed dwellings using exotic materials with detailed finish work for more than $300,000. The size of the treehouse, the location, the materials, the level of finish-work-these factors make it impossible to provide a one-price-fits-all estimate. But here's what we can tell you:

The average treehouse out of state is $100,000 - to whatever you can imagine!*

In short, there's no flat answer, but if you'd like to talk to us about the project you have in mind to get a finer sense of cost, give us a call!

Additional Costs

Expenses associated with transportation, lodging, per diems and a travel time fee are not marked up and are billed directly to the client.

IMPORTANT NOTE: None of these calculations include the costs of bringing utilities to the house. Nelson Treehouse and Supply is not licensed to perform electrical, gas, or plumbing work, though we can contract directly with sub-trades. These costs also do not include the cost of a certified arborist to assist with tree selection (optional but recommended) or with permitting, which is the responsibility of the property owner, though we are available for consultation and do all we can to assist.

* DISCLAIMER: Costs are subject to change.
